Tintin Finished But Not Ready

Steven Spielberg’s much anticipated cinematic updating of the beloved “Tintin” character has finished shooting, but producer Peter Jackson says fans shouldn’t expect to see the film on the big screen for some time yet, as it will take up to two years to complete all the special effects the movie requires.

Jackson, the famous director of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the upcoming “The Lovely Bones”, said in an interview with the BBC that “”Tintin” is great. It’s made. The movie is cut together and now (we) are turning it into a fully rendered film… So the movie, to some degree, exists in a very rough state.” Jackson was in London ready to attend the Royal Gala premiere of “The Lovely Bones”, which occurred on Tuesday night, and also dropped a few hints about the upcoming adaptation of “The Hobbit”, JRR Tolkien’s prequel to the “Rings” trilogy which is being produced by him, but directed by Guillermo Del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”).

Despite the stylistic differences between the two directors, Jackson says the film will endeavour to keep the links with his “Rings” films strong. “We’re writing the screenplays with him, so in terms of the script, there is continuity… We’re writing Ian McKellen’s dialogue the same as we did in “Lord of the Rings”. But Guillermo, being the director, will obviously take the script and interpret that and shoot his film. So that’ll be interesting to see… That’s actually the reason I wanted him to do it. I felt like I’d be trying to compete with myself and deliberately do things differently, which is not the way I want to work. I want it to be more natural.”
