Is Spiderman set to reproduce? That’s the question on fans of the comic book character’s minds after a casting call for a red haired toddler was sent out by the producers of the upcoming “Spider-Man 4”.
“(TODDLER BOY 2 or 3 year old boy to play 2 year old, Caucasian with RED HAIR, an adorable toddler with an engaging personality, on set experience preferred. IDENTICAL TWINS ONLY” read the call, which has got fans speculating given that Peter Parker’s (Tobey Maguire) girlfriend Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) has red hair herself. Of course, other fans have pointed out another possibility for the identity of the boy – that of the baby version of Cletus Kasady, who grows up into the super-villain Carnage… who also has red hair. It’s all speculation, of course, given that no one knows whether Carnage is even in the fourth installment. One villain, or villainess, who increasingly seems to be a certainty for appearing in the new film, however, is Black Cat. Although actress Rachel McAdams, who was linked to the role in recent reports, has flat out denied having anything at all to do with “Spider-Man 4” – “That’s a total rumour, I have to say”, she was quoted as saying – new reports have indicated that Julia Stiles (of “10 Things I Hate About You” and the “Bourne” movies) may have auditioned for the part.
Sam Raimi is returning as director for the film, along with Maguire and Dunst, which is expected to hit cinemas May 2011.
