Heather Locklear returned to “Melrose Place” last night, the CW network’s revamp of the iconic OTT 90s soap opera, reprising her role as the series’ favourite bad girl, ruthless advertising executive Amanda Woodward.
And her character hasn’t learned a thing, Locklear says. On the show, Amanda returns to give newbie publicist Ella Simms (Katie Cassidy) a lesson in business – and it’s highly unlikely to be the kind of lesson you read in any manuals. “Heather is going to shake things up a bit,” Cassidy laughs. “You definitely see a different side of Ella when she’s around Amanda, which is going to be fun. It’s so pleasant to watch her. She’s so good and she’s so funny and so charming, and there’s so much charisma about her when she’s on screen.”
Locklear admits the character isn’t exactly the way she had envisaged she might be ten years after the demise of the original show. “I was hoping Amanda might be like myself, much more relaxed,” Locklear admits. “I was like, “Oh my God, did she learn anything?” No, she didn’t! It’s not the same writers, so they’ve written her a little different. Hopefully we’ll find a medium ground to her. I don’t want her to be bitter.” But what about what the viewers want? “I have read some stuff that people want to see Katie and I fight,” Locklear chuckles. “People like to see women fight. Like in the pool. A good catfight. We may get into a pool or two.”
