Time to Kill Bill Again

Fresh from the worldwide success of his alternative history Nazi revenge thriller “Inglourious Basterds”, director Quentin Tarantino has announced plans to make a third film in his “Kill Bill” series. The original films – initially planned as one before being split in two by the studio due to its extreme length – were released in 2003 and 2004, and focused on the attempt by “The Bride” (played by Uma Thurman, who also starred in Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” in 1994) to kill her former colleagues turned would be murderers, most notably “Bill” (played by David Carradine).

Given that Bill did indeed get killed at the end of the second film, and that Carradine himself has since died, it is fair to assume that any sequel will be about something else altogether. Tarantino appears to be in no rush to make the film, however, touting 2014 as a release date and saying he intends to make another film beforehand.

The director says he would like a ten year break between the films in order to let their lead character “have a break” between crises, although at the time of the other films’ release he speculated on the possibility of a sequel that might see Nikki Green, the young daughter of one of the Bride’s victims in the first film (played by Vivica A. Fox) who witnessed her mother’s death, return for revenge on her killer.

Tarantino made the first comments on the subject on an Italian talk show, where he said “maybe” to a “Basterds” prequel, a straight no to the notion of a “Pulp” sequel, but a vociferous “Yes!” to “Kill Bill 3”. The crowd, needless to say, went wild.
