At the third of the now annual Spike TV Scream Awards, it was the ever popular vampires who were sinking their teeth into practically every award going, with television and movie franchises such as “True Blood” and “Twilight” proving to be the ones almost impossible to beat.
“Twilight” took out Best Fantasy Movie and Best Breakthrough Performance for Taylor Lautner, while “True Blood” proved to be even more unstoppable in the television category, winning Best TV Show, Best Horror Actress for Anna Paquin, Best Horror Actor for Stephen Moyer and Best Villain for Alexander Skarsgard. Kaley Cuoco, star of hit geek sit-com “The Big Bang Theory”, was one of the guests at the event, noting “’Scream’ is the name – how much cooler can you get?” at the extravagant ceremony that featured an apparent unicorn intermingling with other guests such as Justin Long, Christina Ricci and Keith Richards, and barely dressed women dangling from the ceiling. “Vampires are hot!” she added. “It’s scary stuff; they love this whole sci-fi futuristic thing. Vampires are hot, nerds are hot. The whole world is coming to an end.”
Other awards went to Tin Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” reimagining, which won “Most Anticipated Fantasy Film” and was accepted by none other than Johnny Depp (who plays the Mad Hatter in the movie) and a Rock Immortal Award for Keith Richards. Jackie Earle Harley, soon to be immortalised as the new Freddy Krueger in the upcoming “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake, couldn’t help but smile at it all. “This is kinda cool,” he admitted.
