Eastenders Wins Quick TV Choice Awards

The TV Quick and TV Choice awards gave the nod to BBC 1’s “Eastenders”, with the popular long-running soap opera winning three prizes, for Best Soap, Best Soap Newcomer for Lauren Crace, who played the recently deceased Danielle Jones, and Best Soap Storyline for the plot thread of Danielle being the secret long-lost daughter of fellow resident Ronnie Mitchell. The Best Soap Actor and Actress awards both went to stars of ITV’s even longer-running series, “Coronation Street”, to Simon Gregson and Katherine Kelly respectively.

A former “Coronation Street” actress, Denise Welch, won Best Actress for her role as Steph Haydock in the BBC drama “Waterloo Road”, which also won Best Family Drama. Best Talent Show and Best Reality Show went to “Britain’s Got Talent” and “The Apprentice” respectively, the latter winning for a second year in a row.

Best Comedy went to Channel 4’s “The Inbetweeners”, while the ITV series “Loose Women” took out Best Daytime Show. The Outstanding Contribution award went to popular presenters Ant (Ant McPartlin) and Dec (Declan Donnelly), who have been entertaining audiences for twenty years now, beginning with children’s drama “Byker’s Grove” and moving into presenting with such shows as “Pop Idol” and “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”, before fronting their current show, “Saturday Night Takeaway”, which also won Best Entertainment Show.

McPartlin called the award “a real honour”, while Donnelly added “A massive thank you to all of our fans who have supported us over the years – here’s to the next twenty.”
